Pardon the interruption...

Before we continue with Florida, I must report on the fat lip that occurred on Monday. My friend, Michelle, is always so honest on her blog about her joys and struggles in parenting. So, following her lead, I must show you Molly's fat lip that occurred in a moment that was not my finest in parenting. The setting is Costco...

I chose (not so wisely) to go without a shopping cart on this very quick dash into Costco (is there such a thing?!). Ellie, Molly and I headed over to the clothing area where I was picking out Christmas dresses for the girls (very cute by the way). Molly was playing in the racks of clothing, and I was informing her that wasn't a good idea and suggested she get out. But, honestly, I wasn't trying too hard to enforce my suggestions...remember, I was just going to grab the right sizes and head for the check out line. Ellie needed my attention for a moment, so I looked away from the clothes and heard a big crash. I turn around to find Molly on her back with the clothing rack on top of her...all the clothes all over the ground. As you can imagine, everyone stopped, looked and some rushed over. I picked Molly up and found her mouth covered in blood. I quickly realized that she bit her lip and we weren't looking at a serious injury (those always look worse than they are), but she did end up with a pretty good fat lip! Of course, she was crying and although I felt badly that she was hurting, it took everything in me to offer true sympathy and not just give her an "I told you so...".

When Molly calmed down, she was able to explain that she just wanted to swing from the bars on the rack for a little bit. We had a decent discussion on why this wasn't a good idea, and I think we both learned a lesson. We did have to fill out an "incident report" and a representative from Costco even called later that day to be sure she was okay.

Live and learn...

Don't feel too bad. SOOOOOO many kids got hurt at Mervyns playing in the racks. And many a "lost" child was found in a rack (given away by the wiggling clothes). Hope she heals quickly!
